Purpose: The health sector is integral to society's well-being, addressing both acute and chronic conditions, advancing medical innovations, and responding to public health challenges like epidemics and health disparities. The general objective of the study is to examine the influence of strategy implementation practices on performance of National Referral Hospitals in Kenya. Specifically, the study sought to assess the influence of top management commitment on performance of National Referral Hospitals in Kenya and to explore the influence of individual commitment on performance of National Referral Hospitals in Kenya.
Methodology: This study used a descriptive research design. The target population was 627 management and non-management employees working in the five public national referral hospitals in Kenya. This study used stratified random sampling technique to select 244 respondents from the target population. The study’s primary data was obtained using structured questionnaires. The pretesting sample was made of 24 respondents, representing 10% of the sample size. Quantitative data was generated from the closed-ended questionnaire. Inferential and descriptive statistics were employed for analysis of quantitative data with the assistance of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 25).
Findings: The study found that top management commitment has a positive and significant effect on performance of National Referral Hospitals in Kenya. In addition, the study found that individual commitment has a positive and significant effect on performance of National Referral Hospitals in Kenya.
Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Based on the findings, the study recommends that National Referral Hospitals in Kenya should institutionalize visible and sustained commitment to performance improvement by actively championing strategic initiatives, allocating adequate financial and human resources, and consistently monitoring outcomes through clear accountability frameworks.
