Purpose: The study examined how electronic supplier payment strategies affect the performance of parastatals in Nakuru County. It focused on mobile payments, automatic self-billing, electronic cheque transmission, e-invoices and e-receipts, and blockchain technology application.
Methodology: The study used a quantitative research approach. Data were collected from 91 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Structured questionnaires were used to collect the data, which were then analysed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis.
Findings: The study found that electronic supplier payment strategies collectively had a significant relationship with organisational performance. E-invoices and e-receipts, as well as blockchain technology application, had significant positive relationships with performance. Mobile payments and electronic cheque transmission had significant negative relationships, while automatic self-billing had a positive but insignificant relationship with organisational performance.
Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study shows that different electronic supplier payment strategies do not affect organisational performance in the same way. It recommends that parastatals strengthen the use of e-invoices, e-receipts, and blockchain technology to improve efficiency, transparency, accountability, and auditability. It also recommends improving system compatibility with suppliers, strengthening internal controls, and training employees on the effective use of electronic payment systems.
